Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Adventures of Rain Dance"

"The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" is the first single from Red Hot Chili Peppers' upcoming tenth studio album, I'm with You, set for release on August 30, 2011. The single is expected to be released July 18, 2011.[1]

In a June 8, 2011 article, Rolling Stone magazine's David Fricke describes "The Adventures of Raindance Maggie" as "a hard-pop spin on classic Chili Peppers funk, with a creeping bass line and a marching-disco rhythm in the chorus reminiscent of the late-Seventies Rolling Stones.

I can't wait... but the title and description set me up for a letdown. Also does not sound like it has any crossover potential.

This is pleasant but if it came out by some unknown band I doubt it would get my attention (or radio's). It's a case of being bigger than it is because of who it is.

After hearing this a few times now, I really like it. But if it wasn't for the fact that it's the first song from them in almost five years I"m not sure it would stand out at all.

That's a good point. The format is so polarized now. It's not a format like Pop or Urban or Hot AC where you can say "once a song goes Top 10 all the stations are playing it." It's become more of a collection of multiple sub-formats that are all loosely Alternative. I think RHCP is one of the few bands that can appeal to the active rock spectrum to the indie spectrum to the hippie spectrum and everywhere in between.

I've become more indifferent with this song lately than I first was.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to catalog this one under the "Fortune Faded' category rather than the "Californication" one

After hearing the whole album I'm even more surprised this was the lead single. There are stronger songs coming out from them next week I tell ya!

I was underwhelmed at first, but this has actually grown on me. A little formulaic, but the hook is nice and I like the arrangement.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this plummet now.

Now that the album is out, radio will select a new song to play. I'm hoping they jump on "Monarchy of Roses" before a second single is announced.

This is starting to fall like a brick at Alternative already. It did not have a long run at #1 at all.

It's still gaining at Hot AC and on the Hot 100 though.

They don't have to. Goes for adds 10/25. I really hope "Brendan" or "Did I Let You Know" is third.
