The single that won't count toward breaking the record...

It's not that I dislike her per se, but I really really want her to go away for a while.

Agreed exactly. Doesn't help that her last two Teenage Dream singles are my least favorites she's ever released. She looks great on that single cover, though.

Love this song. I could see this going #1.

I absolutely dislike this one... it follows formula to a t.

I like this song. But she does need to go away. This is exactly why Teenage Dream was so successful. She took a long break between two albums.

If she's smart (and I think she and her handlers are), she's gonna wring this album until it's dead - hence the re-release - and then take another long break.

This was clearly released to piggy back off her divorce press.

Yeah, this was totally unnecessary and uninteresting, but it's her "Take A Bow."

Damn her for f**king with Whitney.
Katy really annoys me right now. I was cool with her throughout the era and even when she released all these lame remixes to try to fool around with the charts. Maybe it's because real Pop talent is in our face right now with the all of the Whitney remembrances and Adele's Grammy success, but the contrast really stands out to me. We have these incredible vocalists who take their time in constructing songs and won't release them til their perfect, then we have a song like "Part of Me" which was rush recorded and rush released by an average vocalist to try to steal records from those who worked hard to achieve them. I'm so sick of Katy right now and I actually LIKED her at one point.

Not really feeling this on first listen. She needs to go away for awhile.

It's frustrating, yes. But can you really blame her label? It's working. And "Part of Me" really isn't half bad. Certainly beats "The One That Got Away" and "Last Friday Night" for me.

And she's far from the first artist to re-release a record for the sake of making more money, so I'm really not sure where the vehement hatred is coming from.

This album kind of earned a re-release. Unlike many albums that get rereleased because they forgot to put hits on them ::coughushercough::

besides..as much as i love whitney..she didn't have any involvement in writing or producing the song...she basically did what Clive told her.

But Whitney has a powerful instrument that Katy definitely doesn't have. In addition to the vast range Whitney has, listen the soul and expression in her voice. I just heard "Why Does It Hurt So Bad" on the radio which is kind of a boring song on paper, but especially towards the end comes amazing. Whitney isn't just singing it... her projection tells the story of hurting far more than singing the words "it hurts so bad" can. Katy has an average voice. It's not a bad voice at all, but can it tell a story or reveal emotion? In Whitney's case, that's such a unique and powerful voice that it doesn't matter that she shows up for puppet type songs, because we'd be deprived of something really special. What's so special about or indispensable about Katy?

"We need another #1 hit and we don't really have to try hard with Katy right now, so let's not waste money coming up with a quick song. There's already one hanging around." It's not only Katy... it's Rihanna and whomever else can't sing better than the average karaoke singer you heard in a bar.

i think you are comparing two completely different kind of singers...whitney was about sad ballads most of the time, while katy' songs are about having fun and they are not very deep and i think she does a great job...she sure expresses "fun" when she sings...i am not saying at all they are on the same level, but i don't think it's TERRIBLE to have katy at #1 on itunes when she makes good pop records IN GENERAL(not the case of this song) and in the end, for the first time after two singles her sales are legit, she's not manipulating itunes this time.

I agree to an extent and I enjoyed "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" for that reason, but after a string of songs that sound almost identical and seem to be getting lazier and lazier I'm just really sick of her. The fact that she's not uniquely talented makes that amplified.
