"Didn't We Almost Have It All" is the second single from Whitney Houston's second album Whitney. The song was released in August 1987. It was written by Michael Masser and Will Jennings. The song starts out with a keyboard melody played by the session musician Robbie Buchanan. The keyboard melody is repeated throughout the song as the thick orchestral background swells.
The video for "Didn't We Almost Have It All" is not really a music video, but a live performance of the song recorded during Houston's 1987–1988 "Moment of Truth" tour.
I LOVE this song! It's sounds like a classic to me. I love the lyrics, Whitney's vocals are mindblowing in this.
It's one of my favorites songs (FROM HER) EVER!

maybe it's just me...but many of whitney's power ballads from the 80s sound exactly the same (including this one). Greatest Love of all, all at once, didn't we almost have it all - whilst all great vocally, they sound very monotonous to me.

I don't recall ever seeing a video for this. Basically I loved all of her 80s stuff (except maybe "Love Will Save The Day").

Most of her 80's ballads sounded the same and most of her 80's uptempos sounded the same. She didn't start becoming an interesting artist to me until the late 90's and then her career went to sh*t because of her personal life. It's a shame.
This is probably my least favorite of all of her #1's and she has atleast a dozen non-#1's that I like more than this.

It's alright, but most of her 80's ballads sound the same. Her 90's material is much better.

Digging up an ancient thread here. The other day, I played Whitney's Greatest Hits on my iPod. Her 80s catalog is absolutely flawless. Her vocals on "Didn't We Almost Have It All" were angelic. I'm loving this song more than ever.
I miss this Whitney so much :

I'm not big on the song. But it's amazing to think she used to be able to sing like this LIVE. The Whitney in that video is long dead.
