LOL. Mariah's last 2 album eras would BEG to differ. She should record better material and they would have something better to work with.

^exactly.
Plus, I'm sure Mariah has a LOT more say as to what happens with her record than Rihanna does. Like what to release and what not. E=MC2 had hits on it, she just released everything that wasn't.

Nov 11 2009 6:50 AM EST Rihanna 'Loves, Loves, Loves' Young Jeezy's Verse On 'Hard'
By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes, Sway Calloway and Jayson Rodriguez
"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" When somebody is as consistent as Young Jeezy, it's tough to say he's in a zone. That's just him. The Snowman brings it repeatedly. ("Bag Music" is kinda sick too, by the way.) Singer Rihanna praised his work on her new record "Hard."
"When I first heard the song, I was in Paris," Rihanna said earlier this week of the track, which was written by The-Dream and produced by Tricky Stewart. "Dream and Tricky, they flew out and played me the record. They played me a few [songs], but this one stuck out to me. It had such an arrogance to it, which is so far from who I am ... which is part of why I wanted to do it. It was fun. It was bragging. A lot of attitude. Young Jeezy was the perfect person for the topic of the song. Just the vibe of the song. I love, love, love his verse. He added so much more to the record."

Rihanna is breaking from tradition and going with a different director for her “Hard” video.
The Rated R singer will shoot a video this week for the Tricky Stewart and Dream production with director Melina Matsoukas, reports Just Jared. This will be her first time working with Melina, who has directed clips for Beyoncé, Ciara, and Whitney Houston. RiRi has remained loyal to director Anthony Mandler, who helmed twelve of her music videos, including her latest “Russian Roulette.”
Rihanna is preparing for a busy week ahead. After she finishes shooting in Los Angeles, she will perform a show for her MySpace fans on Thursday at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom followed by “SNL” on Saturday.

YES! This album needs to be a hit! Its too good to go unnoticed. I prefer this darker Rihanna. If this album tanks and doesn't produce any GGGB-sized hits, then I'm afraid she'll go back to exclusively making/releasing upbeat dance/pop records. That would be a shame as IMO the Rated R style suits her so much better.

Rihanna brought out the big guns—literally—in the militaristic video for “Hard,” the new single from Rated R. The clip, filmed in Los Angeles, was directed by Melina Matsoukas and features an appearance from Young Jeezy.
“It’s couture military,” Rihanna told MTV News of the concept. “Everything is surrounded around the idea of something military. We have tanks, we have troops, we’ve got helicopters, we’ve got explosions. We’ve got lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. It’s crazy.”Dec 4 2009 6:50 AM EST
Rihanna Reveals Concept Of 'Hard' Video: 'Couture Military' 'We've got lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets,' singer says of video.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias
When The-Dream and Tricky Stewart first played Rihanna "Hard," they did it almost as a joke. They thought there was no way she'd go for the song ... it was too, well, hard. Little did they know Rihanna was looking to ad some swagger to her Rated R album, and the song was just what she had in mind.
"Funny enough, when I first heard the song, we were in Paris — they flew out there to play me some songs they had done for me, some ideas. And before they played 'Hard,' they were like, 'We're gonna play you the ghetto one first, and you have to do it, you have to do it," Rihanna laughed. "They thought I wouldn't like it, and when I heard it, I just loved it. It had such an attitude and a swagger ... super cocky, and just a fun song. We just thought it was the perfect song for Jeezy [to do a verse on]. It was made for him to collaborate on it. And I think he did an amazing job."
So needless to say, "Hard" made the cut and ended up being tapped as the third single from Rated R. Which is what brought Rihanna to Los Angeles this week, where she shot a video for the track with director Melina Matsoukas. And in keeping with the feel of the song, the video is equally tough: an over-the-top military exercise, only with a decidedly Rihanna touch.
"It's couture military," Rihanna explained. "Everything is surrounded around the idea of something military. We have tanks, we have troops, we've got helicopters, we've got explosions. We've got lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. It's crazy."
