The wait is almost over. Drake has selected the first single from his highly-anticipated debut album.
The first offering from Thank Me Later will be called “Over.” Drizzy exclusively tells Rap-Up.com that the track was produced by fellow Canadian Boi-1da, who is responsible for two of his biggest hits, “Best I Ever Had” and “Forever.”
The Young Money signee went through a painstaking process before choosing the right single. “Before I start working a single, I need to get about 10, 15, 20 songs done so I can pick from a batch of music as opposed to just committing to something right now,” he told Rap-Up.com in November. “It takes a lot for me to put a song onto that list. It’s gotta be a real great song. It’s gotta be something that I feel is timeless and is better than anything that I’ve ever done.”
The album, due this spring, is expected to feature collaborations with Jay-Z (“Light Up”), Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and The-Dream (“Shut It Down”), as well as production from Kanye West, Noah “40” Shebib, and Tone Mason.

I can't tell what this sounds like. But the beat sounds like it could be hot.

After laying down tracks for his debut album Thank Me Later in his hometown of Toronto and traveling to Hawaii to record with Kanye West, Drake’s globetrotting brought him to Jamaica, where he’s reportedly working with dancehall artist Mavado. Drizzy has been holed up at Geejam Studios, but took a little time to pose for photos with fans and even received some herbal “gifts.”
He also shared a photo of a computer screen displaying the file name for the final mix of his first single “Over” under the heading “Almost Time Again.”

I wonder if he's going to have a "street" first single and a "commercial" first single like Jay-Z does.

Could be epic or just sound like a mixtape track. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say it's gonna have an epic course.

"Way too many people here right now that I didn't know last year."
It's like save it already. This dude only tells one story. "Forever," "Say Something," countless other verses, and now probably this. It's all about how he's become famous and hyped overnights. We know this already. Can you remind us of why you HAVE hype instead of just rapping about how you do over and over?

About how he's become famous and everything's different now.

Hot 97 played this at 8:25.
I caught it. The beat is hot. He's rapping all these metaphors about how he's a legend already blah blah blah. He sings the hook with "I don't care if I sound good singing or not because I know radio will play it anyway" attitude. It's a hot song but it's nothing groundbreaking. It's going to be treated like it is though.

The beat is CRRRRRAAAAZY!!!
The hook is HOT
It's ok...definitely not a big crossover radio smash, but I'm sure they are aiming at Urban with this one.

Hits iTunes tomorrow.
The Drakeover is spreading beyond hip-hop. Film critic Roger Ebert has responded after Drake shouted him out on his new single.
The Young Money star references Ebert and his movie-critiquing partner Richard Roeper on “Over,” the much-buzzed-about first single from his debut album Thank Me Later, and now Ebert is sharing his appreciation.
“‘Two thumbs up, Ebert & Roeper’ is now a viral catch-phrase?” tweeted the Chicago film buff. “Thank you, Drake!”
In addition to Ebert and Roeper, Drizzy also name drops Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Jackson on the Boi-1da production, which will be available on iTunes Monday.

I think there's an outside chance that this can go to #1 on the Hot 100 its first week out on iTunes. I think it would have been a sure thing if he waited even another week or two to drop this there. He has so much buzz right now I'm sure it'll shoot straight to #1 iTunes, but I don't know if it'll be able to stay there for the whole week until airplay fills in some more.

I just heard this 3 times in a row on Hot 97. Literally 3 times in a row. Hot 97 has given this 40 spins right out the gate. They usually don't do that for someone unless it's Jay-Z, or possibly Nas, Fabolous, 50 Cent or someone from NYC. They're treating him like a local.
