Going back to the original comments that started this discussion, having a Top 10 at Urban and Rhythmic radio =/= people caring. And the same goes for Pop radio, actually. That's why so many of them are having a hard time shifting units because they haven't really built a fan base yet. Pop radio is pretty much going to play anything with auto tune, 4 kicks in one bar, and synths. You know, that same dance beat. And people will just buy the single on iTunes and say f**k the album. I think there needs to be some clarification here, Urban does not sell big albums or singles. Urban AC does. It skews to an older audience that is more likely to still buy albums. Which is why Monica, Maxwell, Keyshia, Sade, etc. have all had great album sales. This is a good point. Mainstream Urban artists like Ciara, Keri Hilson, and The-Dream's albums aren't exactly flying off the shelves. I'm not really surprised at the "Does anyone care about him anymore?" statement. Not to make this into a racial issue, but if you read posts and comments on blogs like Media Take Out, The YBF, Necole b*tchie, Bossip, they are acting like Chris made the biggest comeback in history. If you go to Oh No They Didn't, Perez Hilton, TMZ, they are still bashing him and calling him a women beater. Most of them don't even know "Deuces" exists. It's a cultural thing, and that's another discussion. Chris' next album will easily outsell "Graffiti," but there's no way that he can go 2x Platinum as he did with his first two albums without support at Pop radio. There's no way around it, and he's aware of that.

I think fanbase is important too. A lot of the high-selling urban artists (Sade, Maxwell, even people like Usher, Alicia Keys and Beyonce) have built and maintained their audience for ages. You can't say the same for someone that just had one or two forgettable and generic radio hits.

The thing is people like Usher, Beyonce, Alicia, Justin make songs that could be a hit regardless of when they come out. Their songs have more of a timeless feel to them (not saying ALL of their songs, because even these artists drop a hit based on current trends e.g. "DJ Got Us...")
But someone like Chris Brown, Rihanna, etc drop singles full of current trend elements to guarentee a smash, but it's more of a quick cash in. The public sees through that they're singles artists and successful for that reason, and probably don't have an album full of strong songs. That's why the top the charts but don't sell albums.

Not that it hasn't already been made obvious, but here is a comparison video that spells its all out. There has to be some consequence for this.

DJ Frank E samples and takes a lot. Kind of surprising it got no credit though.

Wow, I recognized that it was a rip, but didn't realize just how blatant it was until that. Dayamn.

This pulled in a LOT of Rhythmic adds this week but Pop isn't responding too much so far.

Pop still hasn't forgiven him and I also think this isn't that catchy to take off on it's own without some kind of push.

iTunes has been frozen for like 4 days, so it's probably not that high now but I am surprised that it even got up to #12.
Also, this was only sent to Rhythmic. I'm guessing Jive sent it there first so if it does well, they can work it over at Pop.

The Z100 add is all it takes to break the Pop barrier really. This will be a hit.

I'm actually happy he's getting a hit. Regardless of what kind of a person he is, he's still making hot music. I'm just pissed "Pass Out" wasn't the smash it deserved to be.

And I'm pissed that "Deuces" got no Pop love. It's my favorite Urban single of the year and in my Top 5 overall songs of the year.

No, and according to FMQB they don't plan on it. They sent it to Rhythmic in October.

This sounds nice on the radio. I like this now and want it to hit.
but it's annoying how whenever a commercial artist does a song like this, it's huge. But the real stuff like Calvin Harris still won't take off even though it sounds exactly the same.
