I hope this doesn't flop. Hopefully people will just give it a chance. I think it's a pretty good song.

Yea, I hope it gets a fair shake. We havent heard the full song in HQ yet, so that could make a slight difference in terms of perception.
I think the song has potential to be big, though. It's different from what's on radio now and the past 6 months or whenever, and I think it's great for the Spring/warmer weather. I think it's different in a good way.
I dont think there's going to be any in-betweens with this song. It will either be big and go Top 5 or #1, or it will "flop", stalling just inside the Top 20 or so. I can't see it peaking at like #12 or anything.

WOO!
Did Christina get the gigantic 'lead single' hype with 'Dirrty'?

This is exactly like "Dirrty" for me. It's moderately catchy, but it's all over the place. That kind of leaves me clueless as to it's peak. It depends on how radio reacts to Christina herself. If there's a lot of hype for this project, it will be a hit. If the hype starts off kind of negative, it will fade off in the low teens.

I think she could pull a P!nk only because of downloads really and have a decent showing with her first single (that is if they don't hold off on downloads until the album drops) otherwise it will have an even lower showing. I do know she better have one hell of a second single ready in case this doesn't take somewhat well.

I wonder if Christina's label will release the single to iTunes early on, or if they are going to wait for the album to be released like Def Jam does now.

i think it would be stupid for any established artist to hold back on releasing his/her single to i-tunes. I think perhaps the holding back on i-tunes should be used for newer artists to see if they can sell albums or are just a "singles" artist or artists returning from a flop album to gain some idea of where they stand with the public. I think they should release this to i-tunes before the album is released unless it blows up on radio, and they are hoping for a bigger peak on the charts. I think it is ridiculous to say Christina will lose album sales because her single is released digitally. I think there are certain artists who will sell albums regardless of digital releases, and Christina is one of those artists I think.

So far all reaction to this whole project has been negative. People aren't feeling the direction she's trying to go in. The songs on the MTV featurette are just The good news for Christina is her album is coming out at a GREAT time. With huge albums from Mariah, Kelly, and Gwen all winding down, Pop radio needs a new established female staple. There's really no other competition. But it wouldn't surprise me if Christina ruins that opportunity by trying too hard to fit a certain forced image.

I agree that her timing is probably perfect. Everyone is complaining that she is taking way too long, but I'm sure it's for a good reason. I thought Pink might steal some of Christina's thunder, but after briefly listening to her album last night, I was not very impressed. I'll save that for the Pink thread.
Maybe it's just me, but I can see radio being more open to playing this song than Dirrty, for example. I just don't see them in the same vein.
I dont think ALL of the reaction to the new project has been negative. I think alot of people are applauding her for trying to be different and doing her own thing. I actually think that is seen as a positive thing, even if the songs may "sound a mess" to some. As we all know, 90% of "popular" music is so dumb, meaningless and superficial these days, especially by these female pop artists trying to appeal to the younger demographic. I think it's great Christina sticks to her guns and does what she truly feels instead of compromising, that should be applauded.

Christina can say it all she wants, but she's not breaking new ground with this single or doing something no one else is doing. It's an uptempo club track. If it flops, it's because people didn't like the song... not becuase they didn't get her new direction. She has a huge head and takes too much credit for someone so generic.

Well yea, at this point it's all talk because we havent really heard much, but we did hear the "Candy Man" track which sounded like a mess, but hate it or love it, it is different from what most in her bracket are making.
The part about her having a huge head is perception, I think it's the way she talks in interviews and her voice that gives off that image.

But if it's a mess, then that means she didn't really pull of what she was trying to do. Going out of your realm and putting out a mess kind of defeats the whole purpose. You only get credit if you pull it off. Otherwise it's just pretentious and bad.

I only wanted a pop single. Something like "What A Girl Wants".

I think pop will be very cautionary with the song. I doubt it will be the huge hit most people will be expecting.

Now that this is the confirmed lead single...
This will easily be a Top 5 Hot 100 hit, but I don't know about it's airplay.
