I have to wonder if this samples the same song as the Eric Prydz one... since she seems to be into 80's Dance.

I hope it will be something more urban, but still fresh.

Do we know who the producer is? All I hope it's not the same guy who produced "Weekend"

This samples the S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care" so I guess it's a ballad.

This samples the S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care" so I guess it's a ballad. The SOHH article says its a midtempo. I could never imagine Janet releasing a ballad as a single period, nevermind a big comeback 1st single over the summer that has alot riding on it, coming off a flop album era. Can't wait to hear this. A midtempo with Nelly on it should be interesting.

Well I didn't mean a Kelly Clarkson ballad or something. lol
"Tell Me If You Still Care" is a slow song though. It's probably in line with the tempo of "I Want You".

At least it'll do better than "So Excited" featuring Khia...

Knowing her 1st single is a mid-tempo featuring Nelly, has me really not caring one way or another. I hate Nelly, and I hope he is limited in the song because I know he will overpower Janet in terms of his rapping being heard clearly over her whispering. Nu Nelly; it will be like she isn't even on the track!
Wouldn't it have been cheaper for Janet and JD to just have JD play Nelly again like he did for Mariah on Get Your Number?

Is Nelly even popular anymore? Judging from his double-album flop (Sweat, Suit), and the follow-up flop (Sweatsuit), a combination of the two albums --- I'm not sure. I guess the logic being used here is two flops equals one hit? *shrugs*

Ummm combined didn't Sweat and Suit sell something like 5 million copies (including the rerelease)? I wouldn't call that a flop. Combined they also had two top 5 showings on the hot 100 (Over & Over, My Place).
He's still a major player and having his name on a project means something.

Oh, and Grillz. I forgot about that. That was number one for three or four weeks or something. And that was recent too. Like early last year?

Wow really? 5 million? I didn't think it sold that much... except for the ubiquitous and seriously annoying Over & Over, it hardly seemed he had not one but two albums out at the time. And then there was Grillz, which was hardly a solo effort but still a #1.
All his recent "hits" have been collabos, which made me think he's flopped as a solo artist. Oh well, if he's still relevant in the music biz, more power to the Janet collabo ... still can't wait to hear it!

I just threw out 5 million as a round figure. But I think Suit sold significantly more than Sweat did, and I vaguely remember the last time I checked that Suit had sold more than 2.5 and Sweat had sold more than 1.5. I could be completely wrong but it's in my head for some reason. I would assume the rerelease tacked on at least several hundred thousand more. So as a ballpark it sounds right.

Yea, Sweat and Suit collectively sold quite a bit. Together, it was at least 4 million, and with the re-release, I'd say probably closer to 5 mil. Definitely seemed like a 'flop' compared to his first two albums, which sold like 8 million each, and the fact that Sweat/Suit was two separate albums hurt also. If he had released them as one it would have gone 4 or 5x platinum, which in this day is still pretty incredible. Kanye isnt even at 3x plat with Late Registration and probably won't ever get it.

I can't wait for this now! I really wasn't planning on getting too excited for this because I haven't really felt like Janet was truly here since summer 2001, if not earlier. I've been getting into some older Janet songs again lately though, and it reminded me of just how good she was when she was good. With A-list producer and guest star, and all this positive publicity on her new weight, I'm hoping for the first time in a long time this can be an event record for her. Probably setting myself up for disappointment, but for now at least it feels like old times anticipating new Janet.

Now I'm worried that even if this is hot, it'll get overshadowed and killed off by Beyonce's new song anyway.
