Canadian-born Tom Cochrane, formerly of the group Red Rider, took this ubiquitous track of 1991-1992 all the way up to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He won Single of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1992 -- all on the back of this song. He also performed this song at Live 8 last year.
And now, Rascal Flatts are contributing a remake of this to the soundtrack of the Pixar/Disney film, CARS, opening June 9!

I love this song. Saw him perform it live at the Junos a few years back.

This was probably one of my favorite non-alternative songs out that year. Now I think it's kind of corny, but I still like it a little for nostalgia.

Eh, annoying. I never really got into this song, but when it comes in a bar I'll sing it if the mood strikes me.
