Even though this song is from the Supremes, there was no way I could classify it under "Rhythm Review." It's probably the most pop-leaning song they ever released as a single. It's a very fun 1967 tune from the movie of the same name (which I've never seen). It sounds almost like a children's song. Even though this was one of their twelve US #1 hits, I don't think it's really aged as well as their other singles. It's pretty remarkable that all their songs are something like 40 years old, yet they are still easily recognizable to a lot of people in their teens and twenties. You can see a performance of "The Happening" from the Ed Sullivan show here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qjxd-yGCioHot 100: #1, US R&B: #12, UK: #6

I hate this. It's my least favorite Top 10 hit of their career by far. I love most of their singles. This song is so corny and irritating though.

It's one of their weakest singles IMO. Never been a big fan of this one.

I like this. Fantasia sampled this on "Hood Boy."
