There are two versions of this song (that I know of). There's the 1980-1 original version, and the 1986 version. The 1980-1 version is the one that's kind of uptempo and has the reggae vibe, and then the 1986 has the really soft layered vocals and is much more new wavey. I actually like both versions a lot, probably the original a little more though. The original won them a Grammy in 1982. The 1986 version has a completely different vibe than the original too. It's pretty cool how a new take on an old song can yield such a different but good result. My favorite line in this song is "Just like the old man in that book by Nabakov". It's so random, but awesome (obviously a reference to Lolita). I don't think anyone could get away with a line like that nowadays.

Great song, but the subject matter definitely creeps me out.

I don't know. Everyone always loves this song, and loves the Police. Some of their stuff is ok, but for this track, I just don't get it. Not bad, just doesn't do anything for me at all.

It's good, but I'm with HC, I never thought The Police were an amazing band either.
