I used to love this song when it was out and re-discovered it the other day.
Black Box Recorder were an English pop group, who included John Moore and Sarah Nixey (who got married in 2001 and recently divorced) as well as Luke Haines (who was in the The Auteurs). This was sadly their only Top 40 single, peaking at #20 in April 2000 and taken from their 2nd album of the same name. A forgotten gem!
