This song defines the whole mid-90's dance sound to me. It's got the killer chorus, thumbing beat, vague reggae elements, and the dance-rapping. Very summery too.

Melanie Thornton was extremely successful as a dance singer. She was probably THE most successful vocalist along with Martha Wash when it came to 90's dance vocalists. It's too bad she died. She was a great vocalist.

She was a great vocalist. Agreed. And LOL at "it's too bad she died." I remember driving home from school that day...it was like a few days after I got my license...and Z100 was playing "Be My Lover" and Cubby then relayed the news, saying how strange it was considering Aaliyah's death a few months before.
