Honestly, I'm expecting it to sound like Timb(erlake/aland)'s work with Duran Duran

All trying to go commercial? Since when are they not? Well, I don't consider Glitter or Confessions on a Dancefloor to be commercial. I meant commercial for Pop radio.

For some reason, Madonna collaborating with JT/Timbo reeks of the same sort of desperation as her decision to duet with Britney back when American Life flopped.

If we're being honest, neither lady has ever done anything meant to be anything less than 100% commercial. As for the song, I'd be looking forward to it if it wasn't for Justin.

^ I disagree about Madonna. From the late-1990s onward, she has been releasing electronica and straightforward dance music at a time when mainstream radio has been playing neither... She just happened to succeed with it (in most instances).

Well, Madonna somewhat has. Mariah may have been trying to be commercial, but it wasn't. I guess what I really meant in my first post was all of them trying to have a successfully commercial album at the same time.

I don't think there was anything "non-commercial" about "Loverboy". It just sucked.

This is the stupidest argument I've ever seen on the boards. Who's more commercial- Mariah or Madonna? It's like saying who's more Republican- Bush or Cheney?

ROTFL. Yeah. Madonna and Mariah are very commercial artists.

For some reason, Madonna collaborating with JT/Timbo reeks of the same sort of desperation as her decision to duet with Britney back when American Life flopped. I think the Britney instance was way worse. I'm not at all thrilled by the Timbaland thing but at least they have potential to make something good with her. Britney was just Britney and Madonna ended up sounding geriatric on that song. I don't think the same thing will happen here. Then again I never thought I'd be having a conversation about Madonna and Timbaland so you never know...

I don't think having Timbaland produce a few songs for her is anywhere near as bad as jumping on the bridge of Britney's lead single. Timbaland has shown that he can mold his own sound to other peoples' sounds. Jumping on Britney's single is desperate. I don't think working with Timbaland is. Sure it may be more commercial than working with Mirawis or Stuart Price, but I don't think it's a desperate move.

And I don't understand why would she be worried. COADF was a hit album even in the US. Guess she wants more radio hits, but she needs to realize that she's old too. This album is another "dramatic" change that she does to have us talking about her.

i always thought it was funny when everybody started to use the word "reinvention" first on madonna and then for basically anyone and since then madge hasn't really reinvented herself like she did during her old days.

I think she's reinvented her music way more in the past ten years than she did in the 80's. She just hasn't evolved her image much.

oh yeah i meant image-wise... because that's when they use that word on her the most.

I wonder if WB is going to put a lot of promotional muscle behind her for this album being that she's leaving them.

Does she still owe this album to Warner Bros.? I thought the Live Nation contract started for this one but I guess not...
