Just heard this song, and I forgot how much I used to love it and the album Rhythm Nation. I had to be 10 years old around the time dropped. This instantly became one of my favorites. I never knew this was released as a single neither. live performance:

This is an incredible album and a pretty good track. Certainly not one of my favorites on the album, though.
This was never properly released as a commercial single (in the US, anyway). I think it only went to radio as a promo and, despite hitting #5 on the Hot 100 Airplay, it wasn't eligible to chart.
It's amazing that she had seven top 5 hits off this album. But this very well could have become her eighth.

The socially conscious tracks on the album haven't dated that well for me, but the singles and the quiet storm ballads have.
