mms://66.186.0.101/allaccess/tamihype.wmaListen to Tami Chynn's single "Hyperventilating" (Uses the Steps riddim, same as Sean Paul's 'We Be Burnin'): www.wild987.com/audio/ra/wildsplash06-tamichynnhook.ramShe's a white female reggae/dancehall artist who grew up in Jamaica, and this was a big hit for her there in 04/05. Not sure how being white may affect her, but I think this song will probably be big this year. I think this is going to be a pretty big hit for her. She will probably end up being one of those female reggae one-hit wonders. It seems we have one every year. Lumidee started the trend with "Never Leave" in 2003, then it was Nina Sky "Move Ya Body" in 2004, and last year it was Rihanna "Pon De Replay". I think Tami Chynn and "Hyperventilating" will take the torch for 2006 By the time people catch on to this and it really blows up all across the country, it will probably be summer.

Enough with the white reggae. There should never be more than one hit per riddim either.

Well if you think about it, all those past female reggae hits have recycled the riddims, so...it wouldn't be a shock to see this become a hit. Especially in 2004 when 4 different songs used that same Coolie riddim: Move Ya Body, Pitbull's Culo, Mr. Vegas, and another I can't remember.
Anyways yea, usually these songs first break in the South, and then take like half a year to catch on to the rest of the country (if they do at all).
The Ying Yang Twins Whisper Song comes to mind here, which first broke in January/February 05 in the South but didn't become a mainstream hit up North until like August lol.
Then again, some songs are big in the South but never really break through (Gucci Mane "So Icy" lol)

Enough with the white reggae. There should never be more than one hit per riddim either. I agree. The Dropleaf riddim was the hottest one ever, and now I hate it thanks to NYC radio playing 3 or 4 songs from it at the same time all summer.

I hear this a lot on satellite radio now and I'm starting to get into it. It's got such a laid back yet agressive vibe to it. It's a nice escape from winter everytime it comes on. It makes me feel like summer is already here. I hope this does become the token summer female island song.
