Last week cutie pie Katy Perry held a listening party for her upcoming sophomore album Teenage Dream, playing nine tracks from the record for journalists and various media outlets. The Daily Star were one of the guests at the party and were kind enough to take down all the juicy goss that Katy revealed about the highly-anticipated disc.
One interesting piece of info was regarding a track called “Circle The Drain” – which Katy is comparing to Alanis Morrisette’s angsty classic “You Oughta Know”.
“Circle The Drain is intense – it’s my Alanis Morrisette’s ‘You Oughta Know’. It has the F-word in it five times but I don’t think it’s me shocking people – you always say f*** when it’s called for.”[/b]

I can't imagine a song like "You Oughta Know" fitting on the same album that contains "California Girls"...

Perry talks in-depth about a handful of songs on the album, including "Circle the Drain," which Billboard's Monica Herrera writes is "about [her] ex-boyfriend, Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy," and features the lyrics "You fall asleep during foreplay/ 'Cause the pills you take, I know your forte/ I'm not sticking around to watch you go down."
"It's kind of like my 'You Oughta Know,' Alanis Morissette moment," Perry says.

I can't imagine a song like "You Oughta Know" fitting on the same album that contains "California Girls"... I don't think a "You Oughta Know"-style song will sound too out of place on the album. "Thinking Of You" was heavily influenced by Alanis and that sounded fine on One Of The Boys.

I don't think this is REALLY going to sound anything like Alanis anyway. Just because you add a few f-bombs to your pop song doesn't mean you're an angry rock chick.

I don't think she was referring to the sound of the song, more the tone. That is to say, it's an angry song about a break up with the basic message being for the guy to go f**k himself. It probably sounds as much like "You Oughta Know" as Kelly's version, "Never Again," did.

Now on iTunes.
Not sold on it. It's definitely not up there with her 2 singles of this era.

I love the chord changes, OMG Tricky did it again! He does his best for artists other than The-Dream.

As much as I like this, it sounds really out of place on the record.

After "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," I want her to go back to her Pop/Rock roots and release this.
