Jennifer Lopez' Pop Comeback Is In Full Force As "On the Floor" Erupts
Wednesday February 23, 2011
It looks like American Idol is a good thing for the pop career of Jennifer Lopez. Her new single "On the Floor," released yesterday, with Pitbull, is exploding in sales and pop radio airplay in a fashion that has not been seen for a Jennifer Lopez single in quite some time. In sales, the song is currently #2 at iTunes in the US and #1 in six different countries including Australia, France, and Spain. "On the Floor" is also #36 at pop radio according to Mediabase. It is the first Jennifer Lopez single to have this kind of response from pop radio since "Do It Well" three and a half years ago in 2007. This is her first release under a new contract with Island Def Jam after 10 years with Epic records. Jennifer Lopez has eight top 10 pop hits in the US in her career including four that have gone all the way to #1.
#1 Finland #1 France #1 Sweden #1 Spain #1 Belgium #1 Australia #1 Greece #1 Austria #2 US (+1) #2 Canada #4 Denmark #10 Norway #10 Italy (+1) #11 Germany (+1) #12 Luxemburg #18 Switzerland (+7) #20 New Zealand #33 Portugal #35 Ireland #119 Japan (+27)

Wow. I guess Janet still has a chance. She's not that much older and more talented. She could do it.

Jennifer Lopez is putting the power in her fans’ hands. The singer-actress is letting the public decide the ending to her “On the Floor” music video.
The RedOne-produced single from J.Lo’s upcoming album Love? has already hit No. 2 on iTunes following its release this week. The Pitbull-assisted clip, directed by Taj, will make its debut March 3 on “American Idol” and VEVO.
The announcement was made this morning on Ryan Seacrest’s 102.7 KIIS FM show. “‘On the Floor’ the video is going to be released with two different endings,” said Seacrest. “You can vote on which one you like better and the one with the most votes will premiere March 3 on ‘American Idol,’ the same night that the top 12 [contestants] are revealed.”
J.Lo added, “You get to do what I do. Like I go in there with my videos and I start editing and picking all the shots I like and the things that I like and what I feel the best kind of feeling for the record is. You guys get to do that. We picked two different ones and we weren’t sure.”
Viewers will have the option to choose which version they like best. “It’s just different shots. You just decide like, ‘I like the way that feels or I like the way that feels,’” explained the “Idol” judge.
J.Lo’s seventh album Love? will feature production from Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, and a potential collaboration with Rick Ross.

All it takes is a good song!! The majority agrees with you I guess (this song being good). She really proved me wrong. With "Do It Well" flopping, a song that I thought was a smash waiting to happen, and the following disasters, I was convinced she would never get another hit single.

I don't know if I would call this a good song. It follows the trends, which is why it's doing well. Plus she and her management/label are on a huge promo push now that she's on American Idol. If Janet sang this, it would definitely be flopping.
It'll be interesting to see how her album does. Hopefully it won't be like Enrique Iglesias where he had two huge smashes, but his album went bombed.

I wouldnt say they "called her out" for some type of manipulation. It wasnt nearly that juicy. they just pointed out she did something different from younger, more current artists. Jennifer isn't in the same position as GaGa or Briney with pop radio, so of course their strategies are going to be totally different. It wouldnt have made sense to release her song to itunes the same time it went to radio because she didnt have the instant airplay the others got. And to be honest the only reason GaGa & Britney are releasing to itunes and radio simultaneously is to get #1 debuts. So if you want to talk about manipulation talk about it from all angles because they all fall into the category.

Jennifer Lopez's 'On The Floor' Video Creates 'Dance Buzz' Clip premieres Thursday night (March 3) during 'American Idol.'
By Jocelyn Vena (@jocelyn1212)
Jennifer Lopez plays a feisty club diva in her video for "On the Floor," set to make its debut Thursday night (March 3) during "American Idol." The song, a club banger produced by RedOne, is a melting pot of house music and global music, and the video is a dark, sexy look at club culture.
"I play one character where she kind of runs this party, acts like she's kind of bored with it, but at the same time is really loving it and loves this underground party dance culture," Lopez told MTV News on the set. "So I got to be wild and crazy, and at the same time I got to be sexy and sweet too."
In the video, J.Lo wears a big beehive bun, gold gladiator heels and a gold gown with Gaga-esque detailing in its high collar and leaves. It also stars RedOne and Pitbull, who raps on the track. The other men who worked with J.Lo on the video, director Taj and choreographer Frank Gatson Jr., wanted it to reflect Lopez's background as a dancer.
"Originality, being you. This song is about being who you want," Taj explained. "It's about letting loose. There's no explanation. This is this underground video, this underground party."
Gatson added that the video will give fans and wallflowers an inside peek at the best dance party in town. "I kind of get the feeling that she wants us to be in the club after 2 a.m. in L.A.," he explained.
"That's so amazing. [It's like] everybody had some watermelon and the watermelon made them high, it gave them a little buzz — but a good buzz, a real magical buzz, a dance buzz, a buzz that makes you feel like fried chicken, so she just wants everybody to have a good old time."
J.Lo hasn't been shy about her love for the track. She said recording it was an homage to her days as a professional dancer. "The minute RedOne played it for me, I made him play it 20 times in a row, and I just sat there at the board and I kept listening to it and listening to it," Lopez said. "Because I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it, but also because of how much I love to dance and how much that's always been such a big part of who I am since I started. Since I was a little girl, I just totally connected with the idea of getting out there."

Jennifer Lopez dances the night away in the video for “On the Floor,” the first single from her seventh studio album Love?, due April 19. In the TAJ-directed clip, the Puerto Rican mami shows off her sexy bod while commanding the club and partying with Pitbull. Fans were asked to vote for the ending they liked best. Work up a sweat by watching J.Lo’s scorching new video.

Hot video. She looks amazing when she's in the club (that catsuit is pretty awful though).
Interesting that she's actually a year older than Paula was when she started Idol back in 2002.

Is there a different edit of this song? Because the version in the video is not the version I've heard in the past.
