I just saw a 20 second clip of the video on some TV program my grandmother is watching (not sure what show). From what I saw, the video is really simple... Sheryl is singing the song in a big empty room but she looks great.

I'm hearing this for the first time on the radio, and I'm really surprised. I really don't like Sting or Sheryl, but this sounds great. It doesn't even sound like Sheryl.

I really want to hear this! Go to the first post of this topic. Oh, how convenient. I'm hearing this on a station I just found that plays a REALLY good mix of songs. They play Madonna, Pink, Daniel Powter, Sheryl, Gwen, Kelly... I love it. Well, this song sounds really nice. I might buy it on iTunes.

This song has just been jumped at HAC by Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away." I'm sorry, but a 5th single from some pop tart sounding like Cher has NO business getting that much airplay at this format. That's the exact type of song that make people turn away from Pop and turn to HAC in the first place (at least for me). Why is it taking "female spins" away from a critically acclaimed and apparently popular (iTunes) song by a female whose base actually is HAC?

How on earth is Kelly Clarkson a reason people are leaving pop radio? All of her singles got huge responses at pop radio last year (she ended up with the #1 and #2 song of last year with three singles from her album going #1), her album sold millions and million of copies.. and like her or not, Kelly's style of music has been a huge prescence at pop radio since the 80's. You can call her a pop tart, but she wrote her last three singles and they were huge hits so she's obviously not a little industry puppet. What's driving people away from pop radio is the sh*t like "I'm N Luv Wit A Strippa," "Grillz," and "Shake That" which are very polarizing hits. Also everyone gives up their throne eventually. The people who grew up with Sheryl can love her as much as they want but the fact is she's an aging artist whose latest album really struggled to sell like her past albums. Her digital single blew up while she was having major press coverage for her cancer and breakup. It's already falling down the chart. Kelly on the other hand is also writing pop rock music, she's young, and having massive success. Artists come and go. Sheryl took airplay away from the 70's and 80's solo rock queens. Eventually she has to give up her throne too to the people who are outselling her.

Kelly may write all of her songs, but so what? The lyrics are elementary and about as deep as a kiddie pool. Kevin Federline wrote his own lyris to "PopoZao." Does that make him more credible? And yes, I'm well aware of how much Kelly has sold. But you know what? She should have sold a lot more. She's now had 5 singles shoved down our throats on every media outlet possible going back to July of 2004. She had the first and second most played songs of the year at Pop radio alone, and that's just 2 of her 5 songs. Her album should be well over 7 or 8 million in the amount of time it's been out with the amount of airplay she's had. Who's to say if Sheryl had that much exposure she wouldn't have sold as much as Kelly? Her album was released on th strength of one single that only got to #5 at one smaller format. Yet it debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and had very low second and third week drop-offs. That's kind of a red flag that hey, if more people were hearing the music, they'd be buying it more. HAC is all Sheryl has now. She's still popular at this base. Radio here owes her. Kelly Clarkson has her own base. I don't think it's too much to ask that they play Kelly in lower rotation at a format that is not her core to make room for other artists that are relevent to the format but not elsewhere.

Who said it's about the depth of the lyrics? I don't think "Good Is Good" had very impressive lyrics at all. My point was Kelly Clarkson can write hits, something Kevin Federline isn't doing.
If Kelly's a flop for not selling 8 million copies last year, then everyone bombed and Sheryl's sales were a tiny little speck. It's all relative and Kelly had one of the biggest albums last year. She had big album sales and big single sales.
...and honestly, if Sheryl's base is down to Hot AC then that just sucks for her. There was a time when she was all over Pop, Hot AC, AC, and Alternative. Now she's over the hill and then some and she's down to one or two formats. It happens to everyone when they hit her age. Now it's Kelly's (and other young pop rockers) turn to dominate multiple formats just like Sheryl did a decade ago. I don't really see a point in getting worked up over it. Sheryl puts out decent music still although I think her best days are far behind her. She and her peers like Sarah, Alanis, and Jewel were replacing the light rock queens of the 80's and now the kids are replacing the light rock queens of the 90's. That's how it's always worked and Sheryl certainly isn't the first to have this happen to her.

LOL who's worked up?
I also never called Kelly a flop. I just said the ratio of her exposure to her sales isn't all that amazing. Like you said, it's all relative.
Nor did I say I have a problem with Sheryl being replaced. The problem is who is replacing her at this format, not even Pop. In fact, I completely acknowleded that her days at Pop radio are most likely behind her. So basically I don't really know where else to go with this since you're debating me on stuff that I never said.
Anyway, there's nothing left for me to say. I'll just leave it at "Walk Away" sticks out like a sore thumb on HAC right now and move on.

I don't know what format "Progressive Radio" 92.9 is, but they are playing 'I Know Why' instead of this!
Yesterday at work, I heard it three times on that station!
I'd much rather hear this! I love it.

I think "I Know Why" is being marketed to AAA now. "Always On Your Side" goes Top 10 on the official R&R HAC chart this week!

I LOVE "I Know Why". It's probably my favorite single so far, if it is one. Too bad it will only be a mild AAA Hit.
