Okay, this song also reminds me a lot of "Bittersweet Symphony." The strings here are throughout the entire song, while he's singing about how great music is, which I think is something all of us on this message board can relate to. This sounds really light and airy, not in an Adult Contemporary way, but in a Spring kind of way.

Something's that's always puzzled me about UK singers (in this case, a very 'Northern' UK singer!) that sing in an 'American' accent; what exactly does it sound like to you? I don't know why, but I'm sort of envisaging a Dick Van Dyke-type cockney barrow boy accent (as in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Bang). It seems like most American actors (I have to compare it to actors as I genuinely can't recall any American singer singing in a fake UK accent!) either go for the clipped Home Counties tones (a la Bridget Jones) or the full-on 'cockney' accent (a la Van Dyke). Genuine question, btw, I'm very curious.

For me, I can never pick up on an accent in songs. There are exceptions, usually when the singer is singing slow (for example, I hear an accent on "You're Beautiful" and most songs by The Cure). Most of the time though, it seems like singing is an easy way to lose an accent. Richard Ashcroft for example sounds neither British nor American in his singing voice to me. One place where I really notice British accents would be rap songs. The Streets has an incredibly strong accent in "Dry Your Eyes," which to me is what gives the song its character. Obviously, that element of the song is non-existent in the UK... but it makes me think how someone like Eminem probably has an added sense of character in the UK that's missing when I hear him.

You're welcome. Do you pick up on accents by most songs from American artists?
Oh, and I've thought of an example of an American song that sounds like it's being sung with a British accent. Did the band Third Eye Blind have any success there in the late 90's? They were pretty big here, and while their style isn't British, it always sounded like their singer was trying to sing with an accent in their hits "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Jumper."

I love this song! It's my third favorite on the album after "Break The Night With Colour" and "Keys To The World." I think it's a great single choice. Like my first post in this topic states, this has a Spring sound to it, so timing is just right too.
