I know! Nice work, guys.
I think Adele is going to be big this year, but I doubt she's going to live up to all the hype. Listening to her live performances of songs off 19, it doesn't seem like anything will be successful as "Chasing Pavements" and inevitably "Cold Shoulder" with Mark Ronson. I imagine the album will sell quite well though.
I think the same is true for Duffy. Big album sales and positive critical reception, but I doubt she'll have a hit single. Her album sounds like it's going to be amazing. "Rockferry," "Mercy," and "Warwick Avenue" are all jams.
Vampire Weekend will have the biggest year of the groups listed, I believe. They have the most radio-friendly material, and they obviously have the hype going for them. I seem them getting big on both sides of the Atlantic.
Black Kids should do well, but I don't know about them. They have the "poppier Arcade Fire" thing going for them. Depending on what they release, they could have a moderate hit at Alternative. They'll get a lot of "indie crowd" fans though. Everyone I know who I've made listen to Black Kids loves them.
MGMT are f**king nuts. They're the new Of Montreal, and I actually prefer MGMT to OM now. Of Montreal doesn't really have much commercial success besides the wretched revised version of "Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games)" on the Outback Steakhouse commercials, and I don't think MGMT will have much either. Killer band, though.
Santogold should have a HUGE hit at Alternative with "L.E.S. Artistes." That song reminds me of Tegan and Sara's "Back in Your Head" but sung by Karen O. I imagine she'll play lots of festivals this year, gaining her that "indie cred." She has the most potential for commercial success, but I dunno if that will actually play out.
