Well, this is one of my favorites from Emotions.
I loved all her perfomances for this, especially at the Grammys! That was one of her best perfomances EVER (her attitude during the perfomance was so great, she was really feeling the song).
It's a pitty it wasn't a single.....

I love it. It's probably my second favorite on the album behind "Can't Let Go". This and "Make It Happen" were both way better in virtually all of their live performances. Carole King contacted Mariah and told her that she should cover "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman" and Mariah told her she could never do Aretha justice (which I think is bullsh*t and she was trying to sound nice... just that Carole's idea was corny). So Carole and Mariah got together and wrote a song that has very similar structure and chord progressions! LOL!
I doubt this would have done much as a single though. It reminds me of what Celine or Whitney would release after they finished up with their two or so obvious hits. Thankfully, Mariah always had 3 or 4 to release so she didn't have to release the less "hooky" songs.

I love this song. A hot jam. This is a song I refer to my friends when they say Mariah sings with no emotion or soul.

This and "Make It Happen" were both [was] way better in virtually all of their live performances. Yeah, I don't really like the album version that much. But every live performance I have heard has been incredible. I wonder if she could still perform this today.

Lyrics:
Won´t you talk to me This is so out of hand Something´s gone wrong With the life that we planned
Won´t you look at me You´re avoiding my gaze And it seems like you´ve changed In so many ways
Chorus: It isn´t fair It isn´t right If it´s really gone Then tell me tonight If it´s over If it´s over Let me go
Won´t you speak to me I´m just here holding on ´Cause baby I really don´t need to wait around If the feeling is gone
Chorus
I don´t need no apologies I´m not looking for sympathy All I´m asking for Is your honesty Won´t you give it to me Give it to me now (I love how she sings this part)
It isn´t fair It just isn´t right ´Cause if is´t really gone You´ve got to say the word tonight If it´s over If it´s over Won´t you let me know Baby if it´s over If it´s over Over - let me go

Carole just threw in some variations on the same chords from "Natural Woman"

I'd actually love to see Mariah singing " Natural woman" for a live performance one day, but she'd obviously need to be in a better vocal shape.

Didn't she sing "Natural Woman" with the other Divas at the end of Divas Live '98?

Didn't she sing "Natural Woman" with the other Divas at the end of Divas Live '98? Yep but it wasn't a solo performance

I'd actually love to see Mariah singing " Natural woman" for a live performance one day, but she'd obviously need to be in a better vocal shape. Carole King is able to sing "Natural Woman" perfectly fine now at 63 and her voice is shredded and she didn't have much to begin with. Granted, she does transpose it a step and a half down from Aretha's version, but even the DIVAS version was sung in a lower key than the original Aretha recording. Carole King is able to pull it off because of the emotion in her voice. That's why it's the perfect ending to her "Tapestry"album. As long as MC has emotion in her voice, it can get as shotty as ever, but if she can sing with emotion even as her voice shreds, she'll be OK.

^^ Haha. I actually think as Mariah's voice deteriorates she'll be forced to sing lower. (Lookat WBT) and the end result may not be all that bad.

Yeah, that SNL performance was amazing. Most of her earlier songs sounded better live than they did in the studio, especially because she got more freedom to tweak with the production for the live performances. That's one reason I'm so happy Randy Jackson is revamping the songs for the new tour.

I love her performances of this song, they are awesome and very powerful. As i said it's not even my favourite song from this amazing album (which are both 'Emotions' and 'You're So Cold'), but it's definately one of my favourite ballads by her.

I listened to this for the first time in a while today, and it's a GREAT song. Probably one of her best. The lyrics are really great aswell. Simple to the max, but that's what make the song so powerful. I even think they're the best lyrics from her first two albums. No early 90's typical schmaltz.

I love this song, the production is really tight and her voice is really powerful. I wish Mariah would go back to this kind of sound in some of the album tracks for her new album
