One of their more overlooked singles IMO. The beat is hot, gotta love that funky breakdown. Probably my second favorite single from their debut album behind "Hold On." Peaked at #1 on the R&B charts.

It's definitely one of their most overlooked singles as far as the mainstream goes and even though it went to #1 R&B, you really never hear this on the radio anymore. En Vogue seriously should have been even bigger than they were. Artistically I wouldn't put them on the same level as TLC (none of their albums came close to CrazySexyCool and in terms of edginess En Vogue just doesn't compare), but atleast singlewise I think they should have been just as succesful.

This is my favorite song from En Vogue. But it really hasn't endured the test of time like many of their other hits.

While En Vogue never had an album that rivaled CSC (one of my favs from the 90's), they were a better girl group in the classical sense. TLC weren't really a girl group IMO, more like three solo artists collaborating on a record, they were all about individuality (most of the time they didn't even perform background vocals on each others songs). Plus they had a rapper in the group. I don't think there's ever been a girl group quite like them.
But I expect different things from each one, TLC were more urban, and edgey, all about personality. En Vogue were more refined, and classy, and were all about the vocals. Each had their time in the spotlight. TLC's setup gave them a lot more freedom, and I think that's why they were more musically innovative. But that setup is also what killed them when Left Eye died. En Vogue were meant to look and sound like a classic girl group, and I think they succeeded in that aspect. They could have had more success, but I think they were limited by Thomas and Denzil, not to mention Dawn left at a very crucial time.
I honestly don't like one more than the other, they're completely different. But I think they easily go down as the best girl groups of the 90's.
