Charles Wright scored a Top 10 hit in 1970 with "Express Yourself". This is really his only hit single that I know of but I think they had another one but it didn't do as good as "Express Yourself". Everyone may remember the cover by NWA but it was originally done by Charles & his band which I prefer way more.

Come to think of it, I never actually did know who NWA was sampling in that song. Thanks for the education.

Charles also scored pretty well with LOVELAND. But, he was far, far greater a musical innovator than a commercial success. Not quite as much as J B, of course - nobody was - Charles was a great influence on the birth of funk.
Everything on the EXPRESS YOURSELF Album is at least very good - and most of it is, like the title song, truly excellent.
