This was a weird song, with an even wierder video! the song also featured Carly Simon in the chorus and some other parts.
I had mixed feelings about this, parts of the song were catchy, but at the same time it just didn't sound like single material to me. A mess.

Dumb single choice. There were a handful of tracks that were screaming for a release before this one. Her career hasn't been the same since she put this one out.

I had mixed feelings about this, parts of the song were catchy, but at the same time it just didn't sound like single material to me. A mess. That's exactly how I'd describe it. So basically, I liked this song just fine in the context of the album. But it was awful for radio. I don't know who's idea it was to make this a single over "Come On Get Up" "Trust A Try" or "Feels So Right."

I was never really big on this, or any of the songs from this album for that matter. Just a complete waste.

Well, it was a stupid single release, but I believe rumors at the time were that this song was about her ex Rene Elizando (sp?). At the time of this song's release wasn't she going through some legal issues with her ex taking her to court for money. This might have been her choice to release since it would explain her emotions if what i just said was the case.

I liked this at the time, but as others have said it was the wrong single choice. "Come On Get Up" would've been a better release to follow the smash "Someone To Call My Lover".

That is why it was chosen as a single come to think of it. She was capitilsing on the press she was getting at the time. Oh well, press or no press, awful song to send to radio.

"Trust a Try" needed to be the third single.. It would have really opened up the Alternative music scene to Janet.

I don't know why everybody loves "Trust A Try", I mean I like the song, but "Feels So Right" is one of the best Janet's songs of this decade.

If "Black Cat" didn't hit the rock charts, there's no way "Trust A Try" would have. I always thought that this song was the (bad) pop version of "Got Til It's Gone".

The dumbest release Janet has ever made. The song deserveed to be thrown immediately into the trash upon receipt at the radio station. What was Carly Simon thinking?

I like Trust a Try but didnt know about it until recently, when everyone seemed to rave about it, I had to hear it for myself lol.
Son Of a Gun was alright, but kinda dull...nothing special at all, especially for a single.
They only released it because it had Missy and Diddy on it, so it was like a "blockbuster" collabo that would draw attention.

Diddy wasn't on the album version though so that wouldn't really be a reason to release it. I definitely agree with the people who said Virgin probably thought all the drama with her ex-husband was going to fuel it but really no one cared by late 2001 what was going on between her and Rene.

The song is not that bad. The singles from her latest album were not great though. I prefer the video version. It's not one of my favorite Janet singles but it's tolerable. This is probably my least favorite single from that album though.

Even though I didn't like this song, I think the album sucked so hard that there was really nothing else that would have done better. I don't know, maybe "Come On Get Up."
(I actually really liked "You Ain't Right," but it woulda been a terrible single)
