My favorite Mariah single! My favorite single of the 90's! It was #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 ten years ago this week.
This was the first time Mariah ever worked with Jermaine Dupri. They blended contemporary R&B, 60's pop melodies, and a bit of a reggae bounce to concoct what would go on to become Mariah's 11th Billboard Hot 100 #1.
Mariah directed the music video which was shot at her own Camp Mariah.
Remixes were done by Jermaine Dupri, who sampled The S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care" for his mix, and David Morales. Jermaine's mix would become a #1 R&B hit and Morales's mix would become a #6 club play hit.
Although the song only peaked at #2 in airplay, it ended the year as the most played song of all of 1996.
Today it remains her most played 90's hit at pop radio.

It's probably my favourite Mariah single. I thought there were too much boring ballads on Daydream but i've really liked this one and two others. I love the bridge and the chorus is very catchy, classic. It's still fresh too.

It's one of my favorites from her for sure. I love the mood of this song. It's fresh, I don't consider it a ballad, it's a laid back song. I LOVE the video, how cute she was there? Love it!

Well, it is never hard to re-create a Mariah video; all you have to do is pet yourself all over and there you have it.

I love this song because, for me, it's a throwback to the Goffin/King songs of the 60s. This is the closest she came to matching that. Great melody and chords, and the lyrics have the Goffinesque simplistic beauty about them without sounding cliched. Also, there's the dichotomy between the upbeat melody and the underlying sadness of the lyrics to perfectly match the emotions of the speakeer. It's her best song that she put out as a single, 2nd best record.

When I bought the CD when it first came out, I did NOT like "ABMB" at all for some reason. I always preferred the remix with XSCAPE and Da Brat.

My favorite Mariah song!
There's a Thai restaurant that plays the same CD over and over again all day, and I eat there because I hear this song at least once whenever I go there and it makes me happy! And I don't even like Thai food that much! THAT'S HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SONG!

I absolutely LOVE this song. I could never get tired of listening to it even until this day. Mariah's full vocals sound so angelic. The reggae bounce, the dreamy keyboard intro, the do do do dah ablibs, the way she switches from full vocals to clear whispery vocals and back again....everything is just perfect. It's definitely my favorite Mariah song of all time.
And let's talk about the video. The scenes with the tire swing are so iconic. Mariah looks radiant with the moonlight shining on her face. I also love the way she playfully slides across the water on that tire swing. In general, the color tone of the video fits the song really well with all the blue and green hues. Again, this video is so simple that it works. It's not filled with special effects or anything, but it's definitely one of my favorite Mariah videos.

Fantastic record. But I gotta admit that I think the SoSo Def remix is terrible... The Always Club Mix is excellent, though.
