This is simply a GREAT song that should get more recognition. It's hauntingly catchy and filled with so much emotions (even though the lyrics are pretty simple IMO). When Elliott performed it on AI, I was shocked to learn that a lot of people don't know what this song is. This is unacceptable IMO because ASFY is one of the best songs that has ever been written!

This song gets covered way too many times, but Donny's rendition is definitely the classic.

Yeah. I think Donny's version is the definitive version of ASFY. I wonder if he had Roberta Flack in mind when he sang this. I heard they had an affair of some sort.

His vocal performance on this song is really good.

I'm not going to lie, I wasn't familiar with this song before Elliott sang it. But damn was his performance brilliant.

I love Donny Hataway. He can pretty much sing anything and I would love it. He has an incredible voice, one the best male vocals ever. This song is so emotional and it's definitely the ultimate version. When people refer to "A Song For You" they say Donny Hathaway's song. One of my most favorites by Hathaway is "Giving Up". Which is from the same album and the album is one of my all-time favorites.
