Hoping to repeat the success of "Always On Time," Ja Rule and Ashanti teamed up again for "Mesmerize" in 2003. The result was a top 2 hit on the Bilboard Hot 100, giving the pair another smash to add to their tally. You may remember the cheesy Grease-inspired video, in which Ja and Shani played the roles John Travolta and Olivia Newton John made famous. Ashanti displayed her (lack of) acting skills in the intro of the video by unconvincingly exclaiming, "I love him. And if he wants me to be more street, then I'm a be more street." Ja displayed his (lack of) streetness at the end of the song by switchin' up the beats and rappin' more aggressively with his hands flailing everywhere.

This is garbage. I was actually surprised it was such a big hit.

This was actually my least favorite R&B song from Ja. And the video was a joke.

Didn't like it. Ja has many and much better singles.

THOSE HIPS, THOSE THIGHS....
Ja was at his most Cookie Monster annoying in this. It was an obvious attempt to remake "Always On Time" and didn't measure up at all. The video was stupid too. Ashanti was actually the least worst thing about it, well that and the sample...but there was another song out at around the same time that used the same sample better

Oh god this was straight up DUNG. 2000-2002 were truly dark ages of music.

I remember TRL did some wedding contest or something. Whoever couple won had Ja and Shani perform this as their wedding song. Romantic.

Am I the only one who liked this? Even if you loved this song, you'd have to admit that having it be your wedding song and performed at the ceremony is pretty sad. It's just one step away from having Soulja Boy conduct the ceremony.

"I gotta fetish for f**king you with a skirt on, in the back of the Yukon". That would melt any bride's heart.

i don't even remember this lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=35H83uGn_IUI still can't get over Ashanti's wooden and stiff acting. -"If he wants me to be more street, then I'm a be more street." -Unconvincingly gagging on her cigarette and stomping it on the ground. - "If you ridin', I'm ridin'."

"I gotta fetish for f**king you with a skirt on, in the back of the Yukon". I was just about to bring that line up. Priceless. Anyway, this was a mess. "Always On Time" was much better.

HORRIFIC! The video was even worse than the song, which is saying a lot.
