Her vocals are whiny and annoying, but the song's still great!

Not her best vocal preformance.

I don't care for this song anymore. In terms of ballads, I prefer "Innocence". The vocals are much better and the lyrics aren't as sappy.

I'm actually glad this is underperforming for her. I thought it was decent on first listen, but I absolutely hate it now. It's definitely of a much lower quality than "I'm With You" and "Nobody's Home."

I wish this had been on her second or even first album so she would've sung it straight-er and not putting on the whiny brattiness as much, so I would like it more. Even on "Keep Holding On" she doesn't sound all that annoying, so what happened?

I still don't understand the comparisons to "Nobody's Home."

I thought this was done, but it looks like RCA is up to their old tactics again. The bullet seems to be rising again as this closes in on the Top 10:

I heard an uptempo remix of this on the radio. It had more drums.

Initially this song didn't bother me that much. I even liked it as a single choice, even though I didn't want it to be second. Everytime I hear it on the radio now, I immediately have to change the station. I don't know what it is about the song, but for some reason it's become highly irritating. Her vocals are so grating. Oh well, here's hoping that we still get Hot and Runaway.

I suddenly started hearing this a lot within the past few days after barely hearing it all summer. Stupid RCA tricks.

I really only like the bridge of this song. Terrible single choice. I don't think she should have even released a ballad from this album. "Keep Holding On" is enough.

This song is disgusting. She sounds like some snotty 7 year-old at a talent show singing about her dead uncle. This whole album is such a huge step backwards for her.

I agree, this song is terrible. I hate it. They just need to move on to "Hot."

Yeah, the payola is working. This will be her first ballad to be top ten since "I'm With You".

Yeah, the payola is working. This will be her first ballad to be top ten since "I'm With You". So weird that this tacky whine fest is doing better than "Nobody's Home" which was actually great.

Wow, I really hate this now I love this now. And you know why? It's because I can connect with it. An Avril song. I feel dirty. Dirt attack courtesy of me Will!

I don't understand why the record comapny didn't use payola for "Under My Skin."
"Nobody's Home" is a great song, it's just not radio-friendly. I understand why it underperformed.

Yeah. This is a lot more juvenile than "Nobody's Home," and I actually think that helps. "Nobody's Home" reminded me of like mid-90's Hot AC. "When You're Gone" is like late 80's teen pop ballad meets mid-90's alternapop.

Top 10 now. My station will probably start playing it this week.
This song just gets worse with each listen. The whole song is absolutely horrible, but I especially hate how she says "pieeeeces" over and over. It makes my skin crawl.

By the look of things i would say just a couple people hated this song. While this isn't a favorite of mine by Avril by any stetch of the means; I have heard far worse in terms of songs that this isn't offensive to me. The only thing this song needs is better vocals other than that it really isn't that bad of a song.
