My favorite song from Craig's 2000 debut album Born To Do It, "7 Days" is a pretty funked out piece of R&B. He serves up a real cool vocal performance that straddles the line between rapping and singing.
Even though I liked "Fill Me In," this was the song that made me a fan. By the time this came out in the US 1.5 years later, I was already tired of it. But the remix with Fat Joe, really struck up my interest again. I'm really surprised that this only peaked at #52 at US R&B; it seemed like the most R&B radio-friendly song on the album.
Since the first album, Craig David's been really inconsistent. I haven't really liked the songs off The Story Goes.... But I do like a few of the Slicker Than Your Average singles.
