This is kind of doomed because any new Christmas song by mariah will instantly be pitted against "All I Want For Christmas Is You." And what could ever top that? No one has has a Christmas single as successful since.

It's a JD/B.Cox, so you can bet that there's no whispering.

This instrumental clip in the video on her website sounds promising...very uptempo for JD, and extremely melodic...sounds Jackson 5/Justin Bieber'ish.

Where is the instrumental? I can't seem to find it.

I think a Christmas song by Mariah will do pretty well on iTunes. This could maybe be a hit if it's good.

I think a Christmas song by Mariah will do pretty well on iTunes. This could maybe be a hit if it's good. That's what I'm thinking too. A little airplay and decent sales, she could get a top 20, maybe a top 10 hit out of it.

If that is, in fact, the beat to the actual song playing the background, I like it! it has potential.

When's the last time an artist made a mainstream x-mas hit? Destiny's Child? Didn't someone re-make Santa Baby recently? Anyway, if she's goes for something upbeat and younger, I can see her getting a moderately sized x-mas hit. I mean, really, I can't remember any holiday parties where hip, my-age-appropriate x-mas jams were played.

No one's really tried to actively promote a new, fresh Christmas single in recent years either. I think her name + Christmas music will pique people's interest enough to be curious what she has to bring. If she delivers, it could be a decent-sized hit.

I think Mariah is one of the few people who can produce a holiday song without being too cliche and corny. Granted it was 16 years ago, AIWFC was a jam unlike Christmas songs by DC3 and Britney.

Agree with that too. She's the only artist that's been able to take a Christmas song to #1 on iTunes (granted it was 5 years ago, but the song was 11 years old at the time) and very few people, if anybody, can get a Christmas song to chart that high on iTunes year after year. And like you said, other Christmas songs have just come off as corny or retreads of earlier stuff.

(1) That beat bangs. I would be ecstatic if we got a hot song from her. It's been a long time. (2) If this does well, she should really be prepared to release a HOT album in the first half of next year.

I think they're making a mistake by releasing it so early. Radio will not be likely to jump on an X-mas song in October.

I think they're making the right decision this time, actually. If they debut it after her album comes out...well, that's a horrible idea. I don't think they're going for initial sales/radio play. By debuting it in two weeks, if it's actually good, and people start talking about it, radio programmers will have way more incentive to start spinning it in November.
