I love this song. Such a great song. Great vocals. I love how she actually uses the whispers for a purpose in this song, esp. the 2nd verse, with the octave shift. Very subtle way of displaying how the hurt in her heart and mind (represented by the high whispers) are contrasted with her lower, full voice, signifying her reality and external world. The 2nd verse is when the internal feelings are meeting the external world, and she sings full voice over the chorus at the end, showing that she can no longer store up the hurt, she has to let it out.

I also love how she incorporates the style of bone-thugs into the song. Simply Brilliant !!

Brilliant observation haha, thank you. I try. This is why "Butterfly" was her best album artistically speaking. That's why WBT is so great too. There's the underlying realization that she knows her lover won't come back, which is why the last note fades away, fades away like their love.. It's classic

I just like music, esp. pop music from the 50s throughout today, and there is depth to pop songs, (not so much to today's as yesterday's, however) contrary to what crtics think. You just have to look for it. If you listen to pop music on its surface, and don't try to look for depth, you won't find any, but if you actually take the time to examine it, there is depth there in some artists. (Which is why I like Carole King so much. Her music has the most emotional depth of anybody in rock and roll history.)

When is when she added rappers that ADDED to the song. Now she just throws them in just to get street cred.

Isn't this the song she sued Nivea over?

She didn't sue Nivea, the rappers did.

This was a classic song! From Butterfly, this was another highlight. The vocals were great, and the rappers helped a lot.

One of the best from Butterfly. I don't usually like it when she collaborates with rappers and what not but this one with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony worked out very well. A lot of irony in the lyrics considering her own breakdown years later but this song dealt with her marriage to Tommy Mattola and what she dealt with. Her vocals are great and she does a fine job speeding them up when need be to keep up with Bone Thugs.

A really good song. The fact that she worked them into the song is what made it work. Too often she just throws a rapper on the track for some street cred, as opposed to doing a true collaboration like this.
