Awesome debut for Black Kids! Yeah, surprised. Also, nice airplay leap for the Last Shadow Puppets. I almost wish the single was coming out a week later so that airplay could build a little bit more beforehand.

I guess this song is kind of obscure: It only hit #32 R&B in 1979 and didn't really do too much elsewhere. (And this was by far Lowrell's biggest hit) I only learned about the song myself because it subsequently became one of those oft-sampled disco songs that turn up in a bunch of hip-hop/R&B records (Common's "Reminding Me (Of Sef)," Zhane's "So Badd," Massive Attack's "Lately," Joy Enriquez's "Tell Me How You Feel," etc). Anyway, if you've already heard this song, you know that the bassline is sick and the production is perfectly polished. If you haven't heard it, prepare to be amazed: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDatbFGKa0g

This is a great song and all. But I don't think it'll be a big chart hit. There are many more radio-friendly songs on the album.

Hot Babyface production (I think). I like the way she layered her vocals on the verses of this track.

This is hot... Infinitely better than "Alice."

This deserves all of its success, but I'm really shocked at how it's blowing up.

Off the upcoming album 12 Play: 4th Quarter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQqxadsI9-4Hot beat + absurd lyrics = Classic R. Kelly. Embarrassed to say that I'm actually feeling this song... It's strangely addictive.

This is a jam! It could have been a pretty decent US R&B hit.

The only Sean Paul singles I like are from the Dutty Rock album, and this is definitely my favorite.

The B-Sides have leaked. I'm really liking "Two Hearts In Two Weeks." The others are just ok. The lyrics are pretty solid on all of them though.
Their voices sound pretty similar on these songs.

When I hear stuff like this, I'm embarrassed by the fact that I used to be such a HUGE R. Kelly fan. (Like before 2003)

For some reason, I have this terrible feeling that she's going to have footage of 2Pac, Aaliyah, Luther or Biggie in her video.

^ I agree! But the consolation is that "My All" was much bigger worldwide hit than TGIFY. (And MA actually spent three weeks at #2 in the US).
Also, I'm wondering whether this song ever has a shot at an R&B #1.

I could have sworn they already had a topic somewhere, but no luck after five attempts to locate the thread with the search function.

They should send this for adds next week. I agree 100%. TMB is peaking and she'll be performing this on Oprah soon. There's really no great reason to wait on this.

^ I don't know. As much as I like this song, I can't imagine it succeeding at pop. I'd love for her to do an urban-only release of this song late in the era, like she did with FLAB.

Heard this one the radio twice today. I honestly think it drags on too much in the beginning, but it's not horrible - I Stay In Love would've been a second single smash. Yeah, the song is too long for as monotonous as it is. I wish they'd make a radio edit that lasts about 3:30 and cut out the bridge or parts of the verses. I think that'd do much better on the radio.

This song is really addictive for some reason. I'm actually not a huge fan of the video version that got all the airplay. But I heard a few phenomenal house mixes of this when it was out in 1999. There were so many different versions of this song floating around back then that it was almost impossible not to come across a good one. This became their first big mainstream hit.
