On the heels of the surprise success and longevity of "What Hurts The Most", this is making its way towards the Top 50 with a triple-digit bullet. It should be noted that this is only getting airplay of any consequence on seven stations, and is in power rotation in Louisville and Fort Myers. Sounds like a pattern similar to what happened with Rascal Flatts. Combined with the continued strong sales of her album and success at Country, we could be looking at a Top 40 appearance for her.

I also heard they're doing a rock-tinged mix for pop radio.

LOL. I've been there and that's not exactly an uber-country market. I mean, you've got country stations, but it's not the kind of place where you'd expect listener opinion to make country songs bleed into pop without even going for adds.
I'm not sure about this. Apparently Carrie herself has been adamant about not making a formal cross-over attempt, at least on this album. If it does it by itself, fine, but she doesn't want to alienate the country audience so soon. Of course, that won't stop the label from doing the pop mix anyway if they want to.

I'd love to hear the pop mix of this, but I don't expect it to do anything if she isn't willing to promote it.

If her label pushes this, I can see it having a pretty big cross-over. I would prefer if they didn't though, she really doesn't need it.

Well she's gonna need something to perform on American Idol when the new season premieres.

^ It'll be "Wasted," most likely. I could see that being a HUGE AC smash, actually.

It's been a while since a country song has really blown up on the pop charts. It's due.

It's been a while since a country song has really blown up on the pop charts. It's due. That would be true... Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts had some success, but neither even made the top 20... Pop radio has been pretty averse overall to Country songs in general ever since the whole dixie chicks fiasco in 2003... they basically closed all of the doors that artists like Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Lonestar and Faith Hill had opened at the format in the late 90's and early 2000's... Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts have started to re-open that door... maybe Carrie can kick it down!

Just as it went with Rascal Flatts, McGraw, and Urban... a number of stations have picked up on it and are giving it solid rotation, so it must be doing well for them. I could see this being about as big as "What Hurts The Most", maybe even a little bigger.
What I don't understand is why more CHRs aren't bothering to add these country crossovers that are huge at the stations that give it a shot. It's not just one screw-up...after McGraw's success, the panel still whiffed on "You'll Think Of Me", then took forever to get "What Hurts The Most" anywhere, and now this. I'm not a huge country fan, but if the country records are doing well, PLAY THEM!!

if the country records are doing well, PLAY THEM!! I TOTALLY agree! Unfortunately, some CHR's won't touch anything even remotely Country sounding... which makes me wonder if "Top 40" is truly a misnomer these days for the format as a whole.
