I wonder if the news of a remix was just a rumor. They should definitely put one out. She's going to have to pull in a little extra airplay somehow and she's going to have to have something to hold Urban and Rhythmic over so that the album doesn't fade out of the listeners's minds at those formats.

ORDER ON THE CHART: British rock/dance outfit New Order has had several top 10 hits on the U.K. singles chart, but has never had the same impact on the Hot 100, where its only top 30 hit was "Regret," which topped out at No. 28 in July 1993.

Although the group broke up in May after a 27-year history, the four members of New Order are just now earning their biggest Hot 100 hit yet – as songwriters. Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and former bandmate Gillian Gilbert receive credit on Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive" (SRP/Def Jam). The follow-up to the biggest hit of the year, "Umbrella," the latest Rihanna hit samples New Order's signature song, "Blue Monday."

"Blue Monday" was first released in 1983. A remix titled "Blue Monday 1988" went to No. 68 on the Hot 100 in May 1988. "Shut Up and Drive" races 34-22 this week, besting "Blue Monday 1988" as well as "Regret."
Barbadian-born Rihanna might know "Blue Monday" from its U.K. reissue in 1995, but since she was born on Feb. 20, 1988, it's unlikely as a two-month-old she was aware of the song when it debuted on the Hot 100 the week of April 30, 1988.

The other night in Times Square, I look up and see Rihanna walking across one of the big advertising screens. After a few seconds I realized it was the "Shut Up And Drive" video. Of course, there was no audio, making it difficult to match the song to the video (although the car shop theme helps somewhat) so...hot useless promo!

Awesome. I'm so glad this is finally taking off. I really hope the label reconsiders the next single now. I honestly think Hate That I Love You will be a mediocre hit at most on Pop. It kind of reminds me of how Beyonce decided to release Me Myself and I as her third single across the board.

I think that "Hate That I Love You" is more radio friendly than "Me, Myself and I" and it will definitely be a Top 10 CHR/Pop hit.

I agree. "Me, Myself, And I" was really urban in sound and especially in subject matter. If we're going to compare "Hate That I Love You" to a Beyonce single, it's obviously going to have to be "Irreplaceable".

Wonderful, it's going to miss the Top 10. I'm obsessed with this now...it sounds AMAZING on the radio. Whenever this comes on in the car, I crank it loud as hell.
