It's pretty boring, but I actually think the concept suits the song. I quite like the idea of the orchestra playing itself, it's just that the execution was pretty lame. I get that they were probably pretty limited by Kelly's weight gain, but I'm sure they could've come up with something a little more exciting.
In any event, it seems Joseph Kahn isn't very happy with the video either, judging by a tweet from earlier today:

How exactly? Because they were trying to hide it? It's not like she's morbidly obese and unable to move around; that would definitely limit the options for a video's concept!
The only thing I could imagine is that whenever a female artist's video is boring, the director tends to rely on her being half naked to add some interest, and maybe that wasn't possible.

Yeah. I don't think her weight has anything to do with how boring this video is. And that's sad that the director is so pissed he's speaking out about the video. There must have been too many cooks in the kitchen, if you know what I mean.
I suspect that he wanted to make the video darker than what the final product is, but RCA and company wouldn't let it happen. Who knows?

Obviously she isn't morbidly obese, but as we saw they were more or less able to camouflage the extra pounds she's gained with the way things were shot. She's at a point where it wouldn't take too much work to get her back into shape, and the fact that throughout the video they've hidden the extra weight would imply to me that her handlers are trying to convince her to shed the pounds to encourage her marketability. I'm not saying it's right, but this is an image-driven business and the fact that we're all guilty of commenting on her weight gain only reinforces that. Simon Cowell once mentioned that it would be ridiculous to tell Ruben Studdard to drop 10 pounds because it wouldn't accomplish much; with Kelly, 10 pounds would make a difference.

Apparently her remarks about not wanting to release this has angered Clive so much that they're done promoting the record.

I can't say I blame him if that's true. She's sold a lot of records for Clive, but that doesn't excuse biting the hand that feeds you.

I think it's good she's telling it like it is.........imo "Cry" should have been released and not this "Halo" carbon copy........

I definitely commend her for telling it like it is, too. It's a good insight into the industry. And it helps that she actually has a strong point this time around.

It goes both ways without her he wouldn't he wouldn't have sold that many albums. She has every right to be pissed. He is making her release a clone of a song that was already released (Halo) and became a big hit. What incentive do people have to want to hear Already Gone when they heard a similar version in Halo? I think this time she is coming with sound logic in this argument.

But it's an argument that should be made in private. By all accounts, she made it and lost. Move on, at least until such a time as Clive can no longer negatively affect her career. Look, I love Kelly, it's just that this is a stupid career move - one she tried already and which backfired. She was lucky enough to get a second chance, and she's f**king it up again. What's next? Is she going to pull a Katherine Heigl and un-submit herself from the Grammy race?

Ok there are some similarities between this and Halo but its not like a total rip off IMO. \They were done by the same producer so there is always going to be a similarity like a Stargate production, Timbaland, Darkchild, etc. But the melody is totally different. I think Kelly is just being obnoxious and she takes herself way too seriously.

Exactly. Ryan Tedder is obviously very derivative, but it's not very different from how everybody was using Dr. Luke tracks a few years ago that all sounded very similar; it's just that Kelly got on that trend early.

This sounds more like "Nothing Compares 2 U" than it sounds like "Halo" to me.

Top 50 today.
57 50 KELLY CLARKSON Already Gone 613 324 +289 2.555
Nice start. I wonder if it'll be her first No. 1 on Pop this era. I could definitely see that happening.

Kelly's vocals are on point as always, and the haunting production really makes the song. Definitely a Top 5 hit, and deserving of #1. Seasonally, I think this would make a superb winter hit (think "Say It Right" three years ago), but it works for fall also.

38 34 KELLY CLARKSON Already Gone 1380 1129 +251 5.633
I wonder if this will pull a "Halo" and blow up two months from now. I actually wouldn't mind if this flopped cause I think it's one of her most boring singles to date.
