Heard this now. This is HOT! It's like Wycelf's "Guantanamera" for the clubbanger age. It also samples a really old classical song too, right?
Then only thing that I don't like is how this would be so out of place on her album. I mean, there's really no point to this song at all except to get a hit, and the style is so different from the album it's supposed to promote. I don't hold it against her and I'm glad she did what she had to do, but still.

To be fair though, it's very much in the vein of "La Tortura," which didn't really fit in with FO1 all that well either.

Ok, now that I think about it more, I'm just going to say it- she sold out with this song! I hate to say it because I don't blame her one bit, but she is selling out here. Her album is intelligent lyrics and rich musical progressions flopped, so she's making a clubbanger song with corny lyrics about showing off her body and over-the-top Latin flavor. I think the fact that they actually say "spanish" in the lyrics so many times is another reason why she's selling out- I mean she might as well wear a sticker that says "Hello! My Name Is Latin Sex Symbol"
But like I said, the song is hot and I can't blame her for wanting a hit. Get that hit Shaki!

I'm a firm believer in judging something for what it is in itself. Do I think this is an attempt at a hit? Yes. But she's fully capable of amazing work, which she released and got absolutely no attention for. So if she can also go and put out a topnotch radio hit too, then she still has my respect.
Also, Shakira dumbing herself down and selling out still produces more intelligent and cultured material than 95% of pop radio.

The only problem I have with this song is that it sounds a bit awkward coming from Shakira. I'm not used to her being this tarty. I guess I better start getting used to it - this sounds like one of those songs that I'll be hearing til I feel like bashing my head in.

That's why I say I don't blame for resorting to this. The song itself is great... it's just selling out because it's in a such a different direction than her original intentions, as seen by the songs on OF2.

It's a cool song, it has "sun" in it, but I'm in a winter mood.

The song is already off to a good start, (better than DB), and it`s still 2 weeks before it`s offial radio add date:
I wonder when it`ll be released to iTunes.

Message by Shakira on Shakira.com:
Hello again! I just wanted to let you know that very soon you are going to start hearing my new song, "Hips Don't Lie" on the radio (or as we say in Spanish, "Las Caderas No Mienten"). Wyclef from the Fugees is on the track with me and very soon it will be added to my album "Oral Fixation Vol. 2". In reality, it wasn't anything I had planned - but during my vacation at the start of the year Wyclef and I bumped into each other. It was a happy accident, this song that has a mix of Colombian, Haitian, Oriental and Caribbean rhythms. I hope that you like it. I am enjoying it a lot!
Next week we are filming a video in Los Angeles with Sophie Muller, an English director whose work I respect very much.
Tell me what you think.
Love,Shakira

This is so popular already, it made KIIS's Top 9 @ 9 last night with only one spin prior to making the countdown.

I like this alot better then half of the album, and it's not as bad as I thought. But she had to do it. I would have had alot morer respect for her if she sucked it up and took a flop. I don't think this will make people want the album.

Z100 said this is getting an incredible reaction. Good. Cubby was out to doom "Don't Bother" from the start with his dumb comments about how people thought it was awful and whatever.

I love the CD cover! Cubby was out to doom "Don't Bother" from the start with his dumb comments about how people thought it was awful and whatever. Cubby has the worst musical taste imaginable, but has this cocky attitude about it like his opinion is the music listeners manual or some sh*t.
