It's fairly decent for Hot AC, but completely expected for Triple A.

I LOVE this. I like how it sounds different (for him), yet IMO still sounds as if it could fit right onto his "Back to Bedlam" album. That's pretty interesting to me!

The video is okay, he's well known for his boring videos anyway.

I like the video. It's simple but suits the song well. It's not at all flashy like the preview pics fom last month indicated. It does get really boring by the end since it's just him walking the whole time, but like Franck said, what could you really expect from a James Blunt video? The video for "High" was him sitting in a room with paper hanging from the ceiling.

I thought they were balloons? LOL. Yes, it's standard Blunt fare, but his many laydeee fans will lap it up, of course.

I like it. A well shot video with a clear, simple concept is always better than a sh*te one that tries to be special IMO.
Regarding "High", I love the original desert video.

Video/single package on iTunes

Video/single package on iTunes I wish they waited another two or three weeks. VH1 will for sure play the video a lot and that could have created some built in demand.

^ Yeah, I agree: the timing is AFU. Anyway, this is on fairly heavy rotation with me now... Who would have guessed?

Apologies, I think we are talking at cross purposes. My figures relate to the Top iTunes Videos, I didn't know it could be included on the Top Songs, as it's a video?

The single isn't on UK iTunes yet, just the video, which is #3.
The vingle is on US iTunes... #82 song and #1 video

So, when the single itself is released on iTunes, do the sales from both the vingle and the stand-alone single get put together to calculate its sales position? There is also a good chance of an official remix by famous UK DJs Tong and Spoon being put up on iTunes at some stage. He's 'doing a 'Shakonce 'and 'cheating' his way to number 1. Cheeky bugger. LOL.

I'm not sure if you mean the UK or US, but * deep breath *...
In the US (as far as I can tell) if one was to go to the top 100 list or search James Blunt and buy the track "1973" individually the sales would go towards the Hot Digital charts and the Hot 100. If one was to go to his albums page or the front page of iTunes and click "Buy Album" then I assume sales would go towards Hot Singles Sales and the Hot 100, though I'm not 100% about vingles. Purchases for just the video don't go to any sales chart or the Hot 100.
In the UK buying the video also does nothing for the charts.
