I got hooked by "Fire Ant" and now I'm into this album in a big way. She sounds like a more upbeat version of Lykke Li. It's one of those albums where the best songs are front-loaded, but I'm enjoying everything. "Fire Ant""Velvet Elvis" (for some reason reminds me of that early 80's gem "Japanese Boy" by Aneka "Sister Wife"

^ !!!!!!! It totally slipped my mind that you were in NYC. I just moved here last year to attend grad school at Columbia! I'm moving back to Cali in June though. Hope you enjoyed your year here!

This is great. Love it. btw, what's your Alternative station HC? I didn't even think we had one in the NYC area anymore. We still don't, and haven't had a proper one since '97. I use internet radio to stream the station I grew up with. WEQX in Albany, NY/Manchester, VT.

This will be their 2nd single and it already has a lot of adds.
In a lot of ways I would say this song is a great representation of why I both loved and hated their debut album. It's fun and catchy, but it's WAY too much. I like this today and in a year it'll make me want to kill myself.
I'm very curious to see how this could do. I honestly have no idea if it'll be huge or if it'll go down in flames.

This is HOT.
My alternative station started playing this and it woke me up this morning. They rarely start adding random dance songs to their playlist, so props to them on this one.
Available for free on the converse website. Not sure why they're paying for Foster The People, A Trak and Kimbra to collaborate, but won't complain.

Welcome Zack.
This has stalled out on the chart, but it was never going to perform great. It's just nice to have her back.

Yeah I thought they were completely fine. The SNL audience was such a weird combination of people to begin with, German tourists, Brooklyn Hipsters who would never give them a fair chance, and jaded New Yorkers who are there ironically, and maybe 3 actual SNL fans like me.
I think their issue was the backing vocal track. It was really noticeable, especially in the chorus of "One Thing" at least in person. There was none in the verses obviously. I think people unfairly discredited them because it was a bit jarring and you could argue 5 singers shouldn't need one. Personally, I remember way back when I saw En Vogue perform "Free Your Mind" on SNL and it was amazing. Now that I'm older I know they probably used a well-disguised vocal track. You can't fault One Direction for doing the same. Unfortunately a good chunk of the audience did not share the same sentiment.
I still think it was a successful appearance for them though. Good for them.

Grower! I like them a lot more after SNL. I was at that SNL taping! Ok, it was the dress rehearsal one at 8p. I don't know if you can tell, but the crowd reaction after both songs was very weird.

Better late than never? Goes for adds in a couple of weeks. Love this, and current climate might give this a chance to perform well.

Debuts at #68 on the Hot 100 (based mostly off strong downloads from the Microsoft ads).
This could go in the Dance forum, or maybe even Pop but it's getting more Alternative play than either of those formats so far. I like this, reminds me a little bit of Sam Sparro's "Black and Gold" since it has that hybrid soul, dance, rock combo.

This is going to be big.
Debuts in the Top 40 at Alternative this week and in the past few days it's already at #30. This is perfect for the direction Alternative has been going lately.

Interesting!
First single off the upcoming third album by Smashing Pumpkins Silversun Pickups called Neck of the Woods.
This is a different sound for them and I love it!

Also they are from five acts that no one heard of one year ago! (Ok, I heard of Foster the People a year ago but barely) It's ok. I'm the jerk that has the first fun. cd. And I don't even like it that much

For the first time since what I imagine is the Mid 90's the Top 5 songs at Alternative are all pop songs. 1. Gotye - "Somebody That I Used to Know" 2. fun. - "We Are Young" 3. Grouplove - "Tongue Tied" 4. AWOLNATION - "Not Your Fault" 5. Foster The People - "Don't Stop" It's been a long time coming and I just thought that was noteworthy.

Their stuff is usually solid, and I'm enjoying the first single off this album so far. Album out May 22.
"Perfect World"

Doing really well so far on the Alt Chart in the short time it has been out. I like this, but I don't love it the way I did "L.E.S." and "Say Aha"

My first impression was being surprised that the song is so 'BeautifulGarbage-esque (easily my least favorite G album). Still, after a few listens, big thumbs up from me.

In one of the more surprising comebacks of recent memory, Eve 6 is back and they sound like Rock Kills Kid now (remember them)? I'm over that sound, but it's still a nice track. Good for them.

This is nice, but unspectacular. I'm not sure if I'm in the minority or not, but I absolutely loved "Spiralling" and even if the Perfect Symmetry album wasn't great I enjoyed their push in that direction. A little disappointed they have regressed back to the beginning with this, but again it's a perfectly nice song.

This was a big regional hit in the southwest over a year ago and now it's broken though at Alternative. Personally, I think this is destined to be bigger as a Hot AC crossover in the vain of O.A.R, Carolina Liar, or dare I say it, fun.. HOT 100 by fall.

It's still tough to pick out single songs on this album, but I've gradually become obsessed with "Wait" and I think it and "Midnight City" are the best songs on the album but polar opposites. I'm very fond of "Steve McQueen" as well and if they do release a 2nd single, I think it's the best candidate.

Three of the Top 5 songs at Alternative right now are Gotye, fun., and Awolnation. So bizarre, but awesome.
