2011 has quietly been Cake's most successful year since 1996's Fashion Nugget era, which is probably the last time I was a big fan of their work. This is their third single off Showroom of Compassion and is easily the highlight of the album for me.

I really like this and it's gotten off to a strong start. It's probably too early to call it, but it's looking like Noel's High Flying Birds > Beady Eye

Officially the second single. Not a surprising choice, but I have no idea how this will do. I can see this being another huge hit or a complete and total flop.

I used to like this a lot during its first release, but it had a short shelf-life for me. I'm happy to see it's doing well though.

Unfortunate choice. So many highlights on their album and this isn't one of them. Couldn't agree more . This is what you would call an album killer. This is in a commercial for something and when edited down to just the chorus it's unbelievable how incredibly annoying this song is.

I agree. It's a decent album, but nothing really stands out for me.

After about 50 listens this is a leading contender for my album of the year. I pretty much adore it top to bottom. It almost seems like this is the summer of the John Hughes sound for Alternative music with The Naked and Famous, M83, etc, and this is the official soundtrack. Ha. Supposedly there's a new Transplants album ready to be released before the end of the year also. I think all we'd be missing is some new +44 material for a complete Blink 360

This dropped from #1 fast. I wouldn't be surprised to see this plummet now.

"Major Minus" is the AAA single and it's awful. Just really bad. I admit there's a bunch of Coldplay singles I don't care for, but there's never been one I flat out hated. Then again, they don't usually put out stuff that sounds like third-rate U2

Enters the Top 10 at #9 and has the largest bullet on the chart. Holy crap.

Well, at least the title isn't a total barf-fest this time around.

This should have been the lead single rather than the bland "Good For Nothing." There's still nothing terribly original here and I'm pretty sure the chorus is just a rehash of The Killers' "Jenny Was A Friend of Mine," but this is the direction I wanted them to go. I have re-inspired hope in this album now.

I kind of like this. Off to see them with Guster in Central Park tonight. I know they've had a bunch of hits, but somehow I don't know a lot of their songs.

iTunes Free Single of the Week and also free on their website.
I'm upgrading my expectations for this song . There's so much buzz and press around them right now. Even though the garage-rock sound is on the out, I think this will be one of the few Indie-label Top 10's on the chart this year.

I always liked this song but I'm shocked to see how well it's doing. #12 at Alternative with a bullet. It's becoming one of the true indie sleeper hits of the summer. Good for them.

I was real into this a few months ago. Now, eh. I hear you. This song has been out for over a year and it's just finally starting to peak. I'm dying to see what he puts out for a second single. I think the AWOLNATION album is even better than his album with UTIOG which was one of top albums of that year ('06?). The problem is, not much else sounds like 'Sail'. I think single #2 has to be "Kill Your Heroes" or "Not Your Fault".

I personally like it when they go the Alternative route. "Hands Open" and "Crack The Shutters" are two of my favorites.
I like this, but I'm not sure how it will do. Is every band going to start using synths now? They seem so unnecessary in this song even if they aren't prominent. Minor gripe in an otherwise good song.

I've become more indifferent with this song lately than I first was. Unfortunately I'm going to have to catalog this one under the "Fortune Faded' category rather than the "Californication" one

This has grown on me quite a bit lately. It might be a little too 80's to be successful here but there's been quite a few modest hits on Alternative lately that sound similar. Also available for free download from their website. www.csssuxxx.com/

Second single off their latest. One of the only songs I like off the album to be honest. Normally this kind of songs wouldn't do well but it's a quality track and they have the fan base to drive this into the top 30 or so.

#6 iTunes now Can't remember the last time a proper Alternative song by a new artist did this well on the sales chart. True. Maybe "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven is the last one I can think of. Still don't understand that one, and that was three or four years ago. Should be interesting to see how high this can peak on the Hot 100.

Follow up to the Top 5 "Panic." Unlike "Panic" this doesn't sound dated at all, but it also doesn't have that nostalgic Sublime sound.
I have a sneaking suspicion this is going to be huge for them.

No surprise. Official second single in the US. Goes for adds the week of the 15th.
I think either this or "Girls Like You" would have been an appropriate follow-up and I expect this to go Top 20.

This is really good. I've listened to it a few times, and I can't figure out if it's actually a sample of an obscure 80's song or if I'm just expecting it to be because these songs usually are. The melody sounds very similar, but maybe it's just coincidental?
